The Seme Command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) says it generated a total revenue of N546.84 million in January, representing about 81 per cent of the revenue target actualized.

According to a press statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr. Taupyen Selchang, a total of 64 seizures with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N18. 34 were recorded in the period under review.

Commenting on the development, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Mohammed Aliyu, disclosed that the Command had started on a good note, saying that the service was ready to explore all avenues in order to ensure that the target for the year was not only met but exceeded.

He re-stated that the anti-smuggling drive of the command was well fortified against smugglers and noted that the clamp-down on smuggling of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) products through the creeks was a demonstration of the command’s readiness to combat smuggling of any kind through the border to the barest minimum.

Addressing officers and men, the Area Controller indicated his readiness to reward excellent performance among officers as motivational incentives to ensure strict compliance to the extant laws and the service operational golden rules while discharging their responsibilities.

Comptroller Aliyu further warned officers and men of the command not to compromise the standard set by the service but should be committed to the implementation of government’s fiscal policies especially now that their services were most needed.

Meanwhile, the Seme Customs chietain added that the command expected a more professional approach in the handling and usage of arms among officers and men of the command.

He stated this during the retraining exercise conducted by the Nigeria Army 243 Recce Battalion Badagry, Lagos, where he noted that the exercise would equip officers with all the necessary knowledge and skills to help them deal with challenges that they might face in the course of discharging their duties.
