FG Assures Shippers, Port Users of Solution to Apapa Gridlock
For the umpteenth time, the Federal Government Tuesday,assured port users of its intentions to urgently address the perennial Oshodi-Apapa expressway gridlock.
Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, gave the assurance when he received in audience a delegation of manufacturers, shippers under the aegis of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in his office.
He told the visitors that the Federal Government was working very hard to address the problem, disclosing that government was putting in place policies that would fast-track economic growth in the country.
He said that the government would under the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan drive socio-economic growth and prosperity.
In a statement by his spokesman, Laolu Akande, the Vice President said there was no doubt that the Federal Government had great policies, which if implemented faithfully, would address so many economic issues.
He said, “If you look at our economic programmes and several other initiatives, the private sector plays a prominent role in them, and that is how it should be. So there is no question that the roles the LCCI and private sector play are critical to the kind of development policies and plan that we have in this government.”
He was full of praises for the LCCI for its Presidential Policy Dialogues on the economy, adding that this had helped in shaping the policies of government.
President of LCCI, Babatunde Ruwase, who led the delegation, however lamented that “the bridges in Lagos were currently being turned into trailer parks; a situation he said was not good for business.
He said only rail services linked to the ports could address the issues of gridlock, noting however that there had been some progress in the ease of doing business policy introduced by government.
Ruwase said the policy has impacted positively in the business environment, adding that it had become easier for business people to access foreign exchange to import raw materials.
