Captain Adamu Biu, the immediate past Executive Secretary/CEO of Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), is dead. He died in the morning of today in Abuja.
Biu, who superintended the Shippers’ Council from 2004 to 2012, was aged 70.
He also served as Vice President, Nigerian Association of Master Mariners.
Born on October 14, 1950, the late Captain Adamu Biu attended Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria and the LBS Nautical and Engineering College.
He served as a Master at the defunct Nigerian National Shipping Line (NNSL) from where he moved to the Africa Ocean Lines in the 1980s.
Born in Biu, Borno State, he attended Galdimare Primary School, Biu, 1985-65; Barewa College, Zaria, 1966-70; Ahmadu BelloUniversity, Zaria before proceeding to L.B.S. Nautical and Engineering College, 1972-83.
He also served as Navigating Cadet in the Shipping Corporation of India, 1974-76; Officer, Navigating, Mckinnon Mackenzie (Pacific Fleet of P&0 Group), 1977-79; Chief Officer (Navigation) Group, 1979-80; and Chief Navigation Officer, Defunct Nigerian National Shipping Line, 1980-8.
Late Biu served as Master Mariner in NNSL, 1983- 85; Master, Africa Ocean Lines, 1985-87 and later Managing Director of same firm, 1989-96. He later became the CEO, Bwantang Limited, 1996-2004.
