Global Sports unveils brand to public

It was a momentous occasion Monday in Ajegunle, Lagos State, as Global Sports unveiled to the public what its brand of sports reportage will look like as it commences publication soon.

Global Sports, a new sports newspaper, is published by Global Sports Publishers Limited.

While welcoming guests to the event, the publisher of the paper, Mr. Sunny Onyia, explained that the newspaper had come to give a new perspective to sports reportage in the country combining both hard copy and online publications.

He added that Global Sports chose Ajegunle as its base to showcase to the world that the city was a veritable place to do business as against the erroneous belief that it was a haven for criminality.

“Some people will be wondering why we came to Ajegunle of all places. We came here to show the world that Ajegunle is a peaceful place; a place where one can live and stay to carry out his or her business.

“Ajegunle is peaceful and not a place of criminality as some people will want you to believe. As you can see, the place is peaceful with everybody going about his or her own business”, Onyia said.

Onyia disclosed that the idea of coming to the city was also to use the opportunity to hunt for the abundant hidden talents in the area in order to expose them to the world. He noted that Ajegunle was blessed with budding talents in various fields of life be it music, sports, art, among others.

In his words, “Ajegunle is a place with abundant hidden talents. So, we are here, apart from to publish our paper, but to also hunt for those talents we can expose to the world for their own good”.

“Don’t forget that many prominent musicians you see today come from here. So also are many footballers and Nollywood artistes. We are here to assist the budding talents for their own good”.

He appealed to the residents to join hands with his organization to project the city in a better light for its development.

The publisher thanked specially the Signals Operations Command Headquarters of the Nigerian, Army Signals, Mile Two, for its show of friendliness to the company resulting in the peaceful atmosphere enjoyed by the people in the area.

He particularly thanked the Commander of the Command, Col. Copernicus Timothy Lampupu, for his efforts at ensuring peace and sustaining same in the area.

“The Commander, Col. Lampupu, has been of tremendous assistance to the community. I thank you sir for your selfless efforts at ensuring peace and tranquility in this area. May God bless you and your officers”, the publisher said.

Also speaking, the editor of the paper, Mr. Godwin Ahigbe, assured the guests and the reading public that the paper would be one to beat in the country as it would deliver a no-holds-barred reportage on sports.

The veteran journalist said the crew of the publication was experienced hands who could break news at every slightest opportunity; hence the paper would actually stand out despite the challenges facing the media industry of today.

Ahigbe disclosed that based on the present reality of technology in the world, the publication would thrive more with online but without relegating physical publication to the background either.

He thanked the guests for coming to grace the occasion despite their busy schedules and reassured them that Global Sports would live up to their expectations.

Guests were shown on slide samples of the sports paper publications both online and hardcopy.

The high point of the event was Awards of Recognition given to dignitaries who have in one way or the other contributed immensely to the development of Ajegunle, among them Col. Lampupu.

The event, which was attended by sports enthusiasts and other people from various walks of life, saw guests being conducted round the various departments of the company’s newly completed edifice, including its ultra modern newsroom.

Mr. Onyia also took guests to see the Guest House section of the company meant for clients’ and visitors’ comfort and relaxation should they desire to lodge for business or to take a rest.
